Powder coat is a superior quality paint finish that is more durable than liquid paint and protects a wide variety of products from the toughest machinery through to household items you use every day. The finish provided by powder coating is tough, it looks fantastic, and it lasts a very long time as it makes the product more resistant to moisture, chemicals, UV and extreme weather conditions.
The advantages don’t just stop at product performance. As governments around the world gradually create laws for health and safety risks associated with traditional solvent based wet paints, powder coat becomes the obvious choice as it is completely VOC FREE. No solvents, no toxins.
Wet paint relies on a carrier (mostly a solvent) to bond the paint powder and create a liquid for application. Powder coating does not require a carrier of any kind. Instead, the paint powder is electrically charged as it is applied, giving the particles a negative charge which causes them to attract and attach to the substrate being coated. The powder is then cured by heating or baking. This process causes the powder to gel, flow and cure into a smooth, very hard, consistent coating.
ADVANTAGES OF POWDERCOAT
- Performance
- Provides the most durable, high-quality finish available
- More durable with a greater resistance to corrosion, chemicals and weather than liquid paints
- Colour remains vibrant / brighter for longer than wet paints
- Doesn’t run or drip like wet paints during in application, so the result is a more consistent coating
HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT
- Many wet paints have high levels of VOC’s making them flammable and carcinogenic, a global industrial pollution concern
- Powder coat has no solvent so it is completely FREE of VOC’s and 100% safe
- Powder overspray during application, along with unused powder, can be captured and recycled with nearly 100% use of the coating, no waste!
- No costly waste management / cleaning system required like that of wet paint
- Waste is minimal, considered non-hazardous and acceptable for landfill
LOW MAINTENANCE
- Powder coating requires minimal maintenance
- There is no need for special cleaning agents
- Simply wipe over with soapy water and rinse off
- Coatings are resistant to corrosion with no risk of water damage in cleaning
- Colour choice – Powder coatings have an almost endless colour production capability with the ability to achieve bright metallic finishes.
